Before opening Doran’s Canine College, Walter Doran trained guide dogs for the blind for twenty-two years and was the director of training at Pilot Dogs, Inc.  Walter has been training dogs professionally since 1951.   As he says, “every dog is a new challenge”.

Walter has been training dogs for over 63 years. He began by training guide dogs for the blind. He trained guide dogs at Pilot Dogs, Inc. for 22 years including 4 years as Director of Training before opening Doran’s Canine College in 1971.

Many of our current training customers are people that Walter trained dogs for previously or were referred by former customers. Walter says, “Every dog is a new challenge”. Most any place Walter goes Snap, his Welch Corgi isn’t far behind.


Brett got his first dog on his 7th birthday and started training it for Coon hunting.  Brett is a 1984 graduate of National K9 school for dog trainers. He took the Master Trainers course which included Obedience, Advanced Obedience, Utility Training, Kennel Management and other related training courses. Brett likes to work with all breeds of dogs and mixes. He has raised and trained many generations of German Shepherds and English Coonhounds. He has won or placed in over 500 competitions in A.K.C., U.K.C. and N.K.C. events with his dogs earning many different titles.

Brett holds 4 licenses from Kennel Club registries, three with the American Kennel Club (Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, Coonhound Hunt Director, and Coonhound Bench Show Judge) and one with the United Kennel Club (Coonhound Bench Show Judge). Brett has worked for Doran’s Canine College as a Trainer since 1997.  He is now Master Trainer.


Kevin started at Doran’s as a Kennel Technician.  He learned dog training under Walter Doran and has many years experience training dogs and working with people.  He now works primarily with dog care and facility maintenance, and provides a hand elsewhere as needed.


Jessica has always had a love for all animals, but working with dogs has been her passion. She did 4-H dog obedience for five years as a teen and also raised a puppy for Pilot Dogs Inc. Jessica graduated Columbus State Community College in 2011 with an associate of arts degree. In the summer of 2011 Jessica joined the team at Doran’s Canine College.
Jessica enjoys working with dogs of all breeds and mixes and is always eager for the next training challenge.  She currently has a Rough Collie named Chelsea that she competes with in AKC rally and obedience trials.


Justin started with Doran’s in May of 2011.  He started as a Kennel Technician and is a key part of the daily care dogs receive.  He loves all dogs and takes excellent care of them.  He’s even adopted a few.  Over the past couple of years Justin has worked dog training into his skill set.
